- Fair rates and full transparency in an innovative app
- Vision of smart energy solutions with agile electricity rates
- powercloud as an agile partner for all energy processes
(powercloud, Offenburg, 04/12/2021) Digitization and the energy revolution – these mega trends of our era are two sides of the same coin in many different industries. Intelligent software solutions, for instance, help us manage electricity and gas consumption more effectively. The innovative business model of Berlin company Ostrom gives a concrete example of what this looks like. The company launched a green electricity rate in spring of 2021 for private customers, and continues to expand its range of services: The goal is to deliver smart energy solutions with dynamic electricity rates, e-charging solutions, storage technologies and smart home devices. The biggest benefit for customers is that everything is controlled centrally using an app, combining to result in lower consumption. In addition, Ostrom is not attempting to earn anything from customer consumption, and is striving to remain transparent – the company is selling its green electricity at cost. This is all made possible by fully-automated and digitized processes in sales, handling and billing based on the powercloud platform. The cloud-based solution from the successful grownup is helping create the “utility business operating system.” Cost advantages from highly-automated processes are passed on to consumers.
“We are convinced that the only way the energy revolution can be successful, and the goal of ‘Zero Carbon’ can be achieved, is to combine smart technologies with 100 percent green electricity. In addition, everything needs to be simple for customers to manage and configure as well. We are creating a fully digital and transparent customer experience to make sure that’s the case. We have a very agile approach, and we were looking for a software provider who also stands for agility and shares our understanding of the future of energy. That’s what we’ve found in powercloud. Now, we have a platform solution with maximum flexibility.”
Matthias Martensen, CEO and founder of Ostrom
Overall, Ostrom chose an ideal time to get started – more and more consumers are choosing green power: According to the BDEW (Federal Association of the Energy and Water Economy), renewable energy made up the largest share of Germany’s energy mix last year, at 41 percent. In addition, according to estimates by Ostrom managers, there will be over 10 million electric cars on German roads by 2030, and the smart meter rollout will be mostly complete. The Berlin start-up and its comprehensive platform are ideally positioned in this environment. “We are very happy about this cooperation, which fits our approach perfectly,” explains Marco Beicht, CEO of powercloud. “We want to use our end-to-end solution to make creation of new products, market communication, and supplier billing much more streamlined. We are striving to create the software foundation we need for the energy revolution.”
New customers like Ostrom, Lition and Sonnen, and a variety of projects with major suppliers, confirm the German SaaS provider’s approach. In addition, discussion surrounding climate change has boosted demand for the platform. “Our customers benefit from faster handling of all energy-related processes with the help of extensive automation. Ultimately, that’s the basis for new value creation for suppliers, well beyond classic delivery of electricity and gas. This approach is becoming more and more widespread on the market,” Tobias Hirning, Head of Sales Consulting at powercloud, summarizes.
