(powercloud, Achern 27.08.2020) Green electricity for the purchase price and a minimum base price – in a few words, the innovative digital offer from stromee, a brand of the smart home provider homee, can be succinctly summed up in this way. The supply of energy to customers is completely digitalized. On board right from the start: powercloud. The on-boarding to the powercloud platform by IBM Services took only eight weeks – and that was accomplished in times of “social distancing” and video conferencing. How does an energy supplier stay afloat when they do not earn anything from consumption?
The answer from stromee is amazingly simple: The end customer pays a fixed monthly basic fee of less than 5 euros without a minimum term. In addition, there is an amount for the actual consumption, which an app displays transparently. stromee passes on the purchase prices for green electricity from hydropower only one to one and does not earn a cent on consumption. The overarching objective is to ensure that customers use as little and exclusively green electricity as possible. There is also a second approach: The numerous smart home applications of homee will be coupled with the offer of stromee in the future. A world of potential savings and practicable solutions is opening up here: be it the intelligent switching of household appliances, private power supply via mini-photovoltaic systems and the linking of e-mobility and variable electricity prices.
All in all, stromee is thus an outstanding example of the comprehensive digitalization of the energy sector. The motto is: away from rigid contracts and towards cheap and maximally flexible energy solutions. The whole thing is made possible by automated processes in sales, handling and billing, which in turn are based on the powercloud platform. The cloud-based solution of the successful start-up company from the Black Forest is at the heart of the digitization process at many energy supply companies – an energy-industry machine room in which, for example, all billing processes run in a lean and automated manner.
And this is precisely the basic prerequisite for innovative business models, as confirmed by Mario Weißensteiner, Managing Director of homee: “We need fully digitized and automated processes in the background if we want to pass on green electricity to our customers via an app without a profit margin. With its open technology and digital mindset, the powercloud platform offers us the basic technological prerequisite for our business model.”
The implementation of the entire project took only eight weeks – from the first kick-off till “go live”. This is another strength of powercloud, as CEO Marco Beicht emphasized: “Our consulting and implementation partner IBM Services successfully managed the project in a very short time. This is a nice example of how uncomplicated our partners can handle the onboarding. Successful cooperation with our partners is an essential part of our growth strategy and offers all parties new market opportunities. In recent years, we have created new standards for reacting quickly and introducing changes; thus, our end-to-end solution is ready for use after a few days. Afterwards, users immediately receive many benefits such as free format changes, comprehensive automation and simple user guidance.” The fact that these arguments are convincing more and more start-ups and companies with a “digital mindset” is demonstrated by the numerous market successes of powercloud: In recent months, many new and innovative utilities such as Lition have opted for the solution from the German digitization specialist.
