Advancing the energy transition and e-mobility with innovative charging products

What is the role of electric cars in the energy market of the future? One thing is certain. The answer goes far beyond “normal” use for driving to work or to the supermarket. Intelligent electric car charging strategies can reduce the burden of the power grids or provide temporary storage for power from solar systems. As a result, electric cars will be a crucial element of the energy transition. These innovations, however, will require appropriate energy products – a task for Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH (“Elli”). In our new case study on Elli, we explain in detail why the company has opted for powercloud as its backend and the IT challenges that had to be overcome.

Download the Elli case study here:

The entire implementation process at Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH took only five months, from spring to late summer 2021 and this was done in the face of a demanding task:

  • The new, highly-flexible solution had to replace an existing legacy software system.
  • The new platform is comprehensively linked to the Elli IT structure by API and forms the technological basis for future solutions related to electric cars.
  • Intelligent charging services can be handled entirely automatically and without errors: a complex task that involves, among other things, the handling of smart-meter data and the optimization of load profiles in the power grid.
  • On top of this are basic conditions such as data persistence, data reconciliation, and the optimization of all the billing processes.

powercloud acquires B2B billing solution EN2GO

powercloud acquires B2B billing solution EN2GO extending platform functionality

  • Particularly for municipal utilities and B2B providers
  • Focus on product and contract management for municipal utilities
  • Implementation of complex B2B products
  • Existing customers also widely benefit from new functions

(powercloud, Offenburg, 21/06/2022) – powercloud acquires EN2GO, a provider of configurable billing solutions. EN2GO’s technology will be integrated into powercloud with immediate effect, expanding the platform’s capabilities to meet the comprehensive market and product requirements of municipal utilities and B2B customers – from heating cost and tenant electricity billing, to intervall data and the management of bundled customers, to contracting in the B2B sector. EN2GO is already in use at well-known companies such as badenova, EnBW and GETEC. Founder Octavian Zozula who joins the extended management team of powercloud – 5 years after development began, will now lead the integration and further development of the new functionalities at powercloud.

“We are very convinced of the technical capabilities the EN2GO platform brings,” explains Marco Beicht, founder and CEO of powercloud. “With the acquisition, we not only complete functionalities such as billing of complex B2B scenarios in the intervall data environment in the short term, but can also accelerate a number of specific requirements of municipal utilities advancing our vision of a unified platform in the market.”

The parties involved have already worked intensively over the past few months to define and implement the technical requirements of the integration. “We can already provide insights into the new platform scopes at E-world and will be hosting webinars in the coming weeks to inform our powercloud community and interested parties about the new features,” explains Octavian Zozula. “By integrating EN2GO into the powercloud platform, it will be easier in the future to bill complex B2B bundled products for municipalities and the housing industry, contracting plants with individual price escalation clauses, heterogeneous metering concepts and much more. District heating, direct marketing, house connection processes including their billing or telecommunication products are also part of the existing functions. We are talking here about a whole bundle of functions that reduce the entire billing and contracting effort of municipal utilities – especially in the B2B segment. Both platforms are based on the same IT stack and complement each other excellently in their respective solution portfolios. This means that in the future we will be able to offer our customers a very comprehensive platform from a single source that covers all market-relevant billing scenarios and thus actively supports the ongoing transformation process in the sector. Obviously, existing municipal utility customers of powercloud will also benefit from the new approach, as the new functions will of course also be available to them once integration is complete. Our goal is to create a perfect package with high quality for this important target group.”

CS Week 2022 Recap: Growing Trends for Utilities

Just four weeks ago, powercloud was onsite at the CS Week Conference in Phoenix, AZ.  In the aftermath of Covid, everyone seemed to enjoy being out in a business atmosphere together. From networking with attendees to building partner relationships and learning about new trends in the utility space, it was a very positive and successful event.

Here are a few of my key takeaways from CS Week:

  • Attendance was noticeably up from last year’s event. You could definitely tell that people were looking forward to leaving their homes and offices and being back in action. At the powercloud booth, we felt that there was great traffic in the exhibit hall and attendees were wanting to engage.
  • Our new partner NET2GRID demonstrated residential energy insights and predictions by collecting and analyzing smart meter data of all granularities.
  • Digital adoption continues to accelerate across the customer relationship, and this is driven mainly by customer expectations. Digital transformation, while not a new concept, is still in early adoption stages at many utilities. The growing demand for digital by customers along with more availability of mature digital platforms will drive utilities to move faster on their digital transformation projects.
  • Prepay will be the next disruptive wave for U.S. Utilities. Salt River Project (SRP), one of the primary public utilities in Arizona, did a session on this topic.  Some utilities have already adopted prepay but for the majority, this is a growing customer need and will be a trend to watch in the near future.

powercloud announced two new partnerships during CS Week: ACI and GridX.

  • Bringing together GridX’s powerful rate design, rate analytics, and complex billing capabilities with powercloud’s CIS and backend capabilities is a potent combination. Many Utilities are looking for another alternative for CIS billing, and GridX believes we provide unique capabilities that will make it a game changer for those that are looking to enhance/replace their back office while supporting the complete utility product lifecycle. It’s an exciting story!
  • For the ACI partnership, people really loved the idea of embedding a powerful payment engine with powercloud to offer new payment methods to customers like you and me. New payment methods are evolving rapidly with new options like biometric face recognition and cryptocurrency. Through our partnership with ACI, we were the first at CS Week to say that we can use a cryptocurrency to pay a utility invoice – another exciting story that the attendees were excited to hear about.

On the subject of partners, powercloud hosted several of our partners in the powercloud booth. Attendees could visit many of the companies that are part of the powercloud ecosystem, all in one booth.  Thank you to all the participants including ACI Worldwide, NET2GRID, work digital GmbH, CONUTI, Advizzo, GridX, and KloudGin.

Many Utilities who came to our booth were looking for a new CIS/Billing solution to replace their 10–20-year-old legacy systems. They liked the fact that you can pick and choose from our AppStore with the pre-integrated Apps that we have built into powercloud. This makes it easy to integrate to any application or using pre-existing applications from the customer as long as powercloud remains the CIS/Billing foundation at the core.

A huge thanks to everyone who came by our booth to plant a tree. Rather than giving attendees a t-shirt or other tchotchke, powercloud elected to help attendees help the planet by planting a tree in honor of each attendee that stopped by our booth. We are happy to say that we were able to donate  over 100 trees as a result of the show.

Last but not least, thank you to the entire CS Week team for making this year’s conference a major success. #CSWeek2022

We can’t wait to see you all next year.

powercloud relies on transparent processes and proximity to the customer

powercloud has been able to win customers and generate growth in recent years like no other billing solutions provider. The success is based ultimately on a triad of customer proximity, technological innovations and efficient implementation processes – in which everything is done through the teamwork of proven experts. In this respect, the billing specialists have naturally declared the values of “transparency” and “openness” as strategic corporate goals. This shapes the further development of the service and communication concept.

Amidst an unprecedented wave of digitalization, powercloud has been able to win many customers in recent years – utilities, energy start-ups and municipal utilities. Most recently, for example, the award won by Thüga in Germany made a lot of people take notice. In the future, 38 utilities with various requirements will use one billing platform, the Thüga billing platform (TAP). Unexpectedly for many observers, the choice fell on a solution that uses powercloud as the technical energy management core. Clearly, powercloud has now arrived on the market and has brought along its long-standing customer relationships. But what exactly lies behind this success?

1. Customer proximity: The needs of the user in focus

powercloud, from the beginning, attracted pioneers among clients who placed their trust in the young start-up and brought their own know-how into the relationship. This was the starting point for the development of the solution in the market – marked always by short paths between users and developers. “In terms of how we align customer needs and development needs, we still face a steep learning curve,” says Zoran Petrovic, Managing Director and Chief Growth Officer at powercloud. “At the moment, we must develop our communication and service to be able to adapt both to the strong growth and to the increasingly diverse client portfolio. From small municipal utilities to large competitive utilities, we want to cover the entire range of service and information needs for these partners.” In real terms, this means that powercloud relies on a rapidly growing service desk and additional support from ever more partners. “More resources in the service desk alone, however, is not enough,” says Zoran. “We think long term. Most users want to solve their problems themselves. This is why we are compiling extensive technical documentation and digital training content. This saves time and lets us focus better on the challenges facing the energy industry.”

2. Innovations: Escaping rigid systems

The second pillar that powercloud’s success rests on is continuous technological innovation behind the platform idea. The motto here is to escape the rigid systems of the past and move into a highly flexible cloud platform solution that can be customized swiftly. This is made possible by, among other things, an app store – very much like what you know from your smartphone. A world of opportunities opens up here for businesses to respond to changing markets and infrastructure quickly and without having to set up costly IT projects. Moreover, powercloud is based on an open-source architecture which ensures a high degree of independence from suppliers and technologies. Or, put another way, the open and transparent philosophy behind the technology is an open door for technology partners and industry partners to enter through. They transfer their know-how into “powerApps” – the holistic platform solution from powercloud becomes the enabler for new business sectors and models. The associated “innovation inflow” therefore never dries up.

3. Efficient implementation: A matter of weeks

Finally, a few words about implementing the cloud-based system that resolves crucial issues for users of legacy systems. In the past, modernizing their IT solution invariably took a long time for many users. The powercloud implementation, in contrast, uses a standardized best-practice process with defined onboarding modules. Depending on the starting point, the end-to-end solution is ready in just a few weeks, can be scaled at any time, and can also be rolled out for new business sectors and in new countries, for example. At the same time, the solution is in no way a “plug-in” – stability, speed, and cost-efficiency all remain at a high level.

Customer proximity, technological innovations, and efficient implementation processes – the success of powercloud is based on this triad. powercloud will rely on these points to check even more closely in the future whether the current solutions meet customer needs; what exactly do users need for their tasks, which solutions help quickly, and where do problems emerge. “To find the answers, we will be conducting regular surveys from now on,” says Marco Beicht, Founder and CEO of powercloud. “We will actively collect the survey feedback, and from it, come up with concrete measures for the entire organization and for our product. Being close to our customers matters a great deal to us. Only in this way can we operate over the long term – an open platform with a growing ecosystem that will help our customers run their businesses day to day and help solve the long-term challenges of the energy transition and digitalization.”

powercloud and GridX Partner to Offer Advanced Billing and Pricing Analytics Solutions to the Utility Industry

  • Partnership Streamlines Meter-to-Cash Process and Enables Customers to Have a Complete Understanding of the Financial Impact of Making Clean Energy Decisions

ALPHARETTA, Ga., May 04, 2022 – powercloud, the cloud CIS billing software for the energy and utilities industry, today announced their newest powercloud partner, GridX, Inc., the leading enterprise rate platform provider to modern utilities and energy technology companies.

Utilities are increasingly turning to Time-of-Use (TOU) rate plans to aid in their decarbonization efforts. To maximize the impact of these variable rates, they need to be able to quickly define and implement programs, deliver education on their benefits and bill customers based on their individual usage. GridX quickly analyzes millions of data points to determine the bill impact of participating in a TOU rate plan in dollars and cents and has been used to implement some of the most complex rates at the largest utilities in the U.S., including PG&E, SCE, PSEG Long Island and Consumers Energy. By providing an integrated solution, GridX and powercloud enable utilities to quickly implement new rates with an easy hand-off to the powercloud billing system without maintaining two pricing catalogs.

“For utilities, products and cost components are getting more complex and the speed at which they are being asked to implement them is increasing,” stated Steven Dawson, VP & Country Manager, powercloud.” With GridX, business users, with no technical experience, can model, test and validate tariffs, rates and programs. Direct integration with the powercloud billing system means the work only need be completed once, and this is a huge benefit for these users.”

The GridX enterprise rate platform includes integrated rate and cost analysis to enable customers to find the best rate plan that fits their needs. With an entire suite of applications to manage the complete utility product life cycle, it includes rate design, marketing outreach, enhanced customer care, and key account management.

“Utilities are facing growing regulatory mandates that require more complex options and business models, which are required to help achieve decarbonization goals,” said Scott Engstrom, Chief Customer Officer, GridX. “This partnership enables them to upgrade their Meter-to-Cash processes and reduce operating costs with cross-platform automation that is easy to maintain and enhance. Our advanced analytics enhances the CIS function by reducing the time needed to roll out TOU plans from months to weeks and ensures a seamless billing process on the back end.”

Simplification of the IT architecture is supported by the powercloud billing platform through open APIs, allowing utilities to easily connect to additional services and functionalities by 3rd parties. Both the powercloud and GridX solutions run on Amazon Web Services (AWS) globally.

powercloud and GridX will showcase the integrated solution at the CS Week Conference beginning May 3 this year in Phoenix, AZ.

Energy cooperative Prokon relies on powercloud

  • Big bang migration sets the pace of change
  •  Agile processes in the backend guarantee more flexibility

(powercloud, Offenburg, May 03, 2022) With almost 40,000 members, Prokon is Germany’s largest energy cooperative. Everyone can become a member of the joint venture, invest in wind farms and thus support the transition to better climate protection – an outstanding example of those innovative business models that have been structurally changing the German energy market for several years. At the same time, Prokon has been active in the market as an independent energy supplier since 2013 and supplies around 33,000 customers with self-produced green electricity. In addition, there are other offers such as electricity for commercial customers and biogas for end users. The latter has been implemented in the entrepreneurial backend with the aid of powercloud since the start of 2021. The cooperative has now also changed its billing processes for green electricity for end consumers – since March of this year, this control has also been carried out with the help of powercloud.

As Frank Kalliora, Head of Energy Trading at Prokon, explains, the new solution replaces the in-house software development that was previously in use at the cooperative and had reached its technological limits: “Our green electricity offer of 100 percent wind energy has been very successful on the market for years. However, there is considerable potential that we are not yet exploiting; for example, creating new products based on the existing system proved too complex. To accomplish this, we need a backend that enables flexible and automated processes. powercloud can now guarantee us this level of quality. There is also a cooperative approach: With the aid of the powerApp store from powercloud, we can integrate the expertise of various service providers into our own solution and precisely tailor the whole system to our needs. That convinced us.” For example, based on this system, Prokon uses iXenso’s output management for customer communication, the powerData IntegrationLayer, as well as work digital’s solution “Start Service”. The associated automation of processes in the energy economy ensures better speed and decreased workload for the cooperative.

It is also interesting to have a look at the processes surrounding the billing conversion at Prokon, because private electricity customers’ data were transferred to the new platform as part of a large “big bang migration” in March. So, everything was migrated “in one fell swoop” – mind you, this was only about five months after the start of the electricity project in November last year. The migration process was accompanied by powercloud partner Natuvion. The company specializes in the transformation of data to new platforms. As Zoran Petrovic, Managing Director and Chief Growth Officer at powercloud, explains: “When we implement our solutions, we always rely on a teamwork of specialists who support us with their expertise. The method of operation is tried and tested, works completely smoothly, and ensures speed in many specific areas. Overall, we are very pleased to be able to support Prokon’s innovative business model in this way, because we see ourselves as facilitators of an innovative energy future. Prokon’s offer fits perfectly with this.”

About Prokon

With almost 40,000 members, Prokon Regenerative Energien eG is the largest energy cooperative in Germany. The company’s particular focus is on generating and supplying renewable-energy-based electricity in close proximity to the citizen.

Prokon was founded in 1995 and can call upon more than 25 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, the most recent six of which have been as a citizens’ cooperative. Today, the development, planning, and implementation of onshore wind farms, as well as their subsequent technical and commercial management, are among Prokon’s core competencies, as is supplying private household customers with green electricity nationwide. Prokon currently operates around 70 wind farms in Germany, Poland and Finland, with a total capacity of almost 800 MW. For more information visit: www.prokon.net

powercloud Partners with ACI Worldwide to Amplify Bill Payment Experience for Utilities Customers

  • powercloud CIS Billing System Integrated with ACI Speedpay Drives More Bill Payment Options for Utilities

ALPHARETTA, Ga., May 03, 2022 – powercloud, the cloud customer information system (CIS) and billing software for the energy and utilities industry, today announced a partnership with ACI Worldwide (NASDAQ: ACIW), the global leader in mission-critical, real-time payments software. The pre-integrated ACI Speedpay and powercloud CIS Billing system enhances the customer experience by providing utility companies with a cloud-based billing, payment and bill presentment solution out-of-the-box.

The combined solution benefits the utility company by providing a tightly integrated end-to-end CIS with electronic bill presentment and payment solutions. It also gives consumers the billing, payment and communications options they want, whether emerging payment methods such as Apple Pay, PayPal, and Google Pay, or cash payments made in-lane at one of thousands of retail locations. Paying with a mobile wallet is a popular option, with nearly half (49 percent) of consumers saying they would consider paying a bill this way, according to the latest ACI Speedpay Pulse Study.

“As powercloud is a German company, and with the majority of Germans paying their bills via direct debit, integrated payment options were not previously critical. With our recent entry into the U.S. market, having other payment options built into our solution quickly became a priority. As we began looking for a partner, we wanted to work with the best and ACI has dominated in this space with an industry-specific payment solution – ACI Speedpay – for the utilities industry.” stated Steven Dawson, VP & Country Manager, powercloud.

The partnership between powercloud and ACI also enables utility companies to be innovative in the payment options they offer to their customers. Future payment options include pre-pay options that allow consumers to pay as they use. Pre-pay options are attractive to end users because it allows them to manage their money and become smarter about how they use their energy.

“As powercloud makes their entry into the US market, ACI will be its first payments partner in providing utilities companies with a cloud-based billing, payment and bill presentment solution,” said Sanjay Gupta, head of biller segment, ACI Worldwide. “The combination of ACI Speedpay and powercloud will provide utilities companies with the broadest array of payment options and channels to pay, making it easier for consumers to pay their utility bills in the way that best suits them.”

powercloud and ACI will be exhibiting at the CS Week Conference May 3-6 at the Phoenix Convention Center in adjoining booths (318 & 319). They will also be co-presenting a session at the conference: “From Cash to Crypto: Future Proof Your Payments Operation” on May 4.

10 years of powercloud: From start-up to the fastest growing billing system in the energy industry

How did you come up with the idea of developing a cloud-based billing platform? The powercloud story was an evolution. Various twists and turns characterized the company’s early years. On our 10th anniversary, we would like to look back at the beginnings and development of powercloud.

When Marco Beicht founded powercloud in June 2012, he initially focused on the sales processes and product management of energy utilities. Marco had previously developed e-commerce solutions for telecommunications companies, and sales and product development were part of his “professional DNA”. It was only fitting then that powercloud’s first product for the energy industry was a solution for calculating bonuses when provider changes occurred. “This was not as easy as it might sound because a lot of energy utilities were not even able to make calculations with differentiated price lists at that time. The IT systems simply didn’t allow it,” Marco explained.

As a result, the first customers of powercloud, mostly energy discounters, had already discovered that invoice processing of complex energy products was a major challenge. It was quickly becoming an added operational cost as well as an obstacle to innovation. Delivery of a smooth invoicing implementation process presented a major opportunity to increase productivity for these energy providers.

Recognizing this opportunity, the developers of powercloud created the basis for a comprehensive billing platform, and this was the foundation to the company’s success. On the one hand, the young start-up had a lot of knowledge about e-commerce, digitization, etc. On the other hand, the first customers were also “new” to the market and open to innovative technological approaches. “Together we were able to purposefully develop a highly productive solution handling market communications, billing and accounting,” Marco confirmed. “These are exactly the critical processes at the heart of any energy utility.”

New shareholders, growing customer base

In 2016, four years after its founding, powercloud was approached by their first major energy utility prospect. Together, they launched a pilot project with powercloud billing technology at the heart of this major green energy brand. It became obvious that powercloud enabled a huge gain in efficiency for energy utilities. From then on, the road to opportunity for powercloud was endless — numerous utilities were opting for the platform.

In 2019, the American investor, General Atlantic, joined powercloud. That year turned out to be a turning point in the company’s history. The number of employees grew above the “magic” number of 50, and the first major customer successfully completed migration to powercloud. “That year represented a real breakthrough. We had finally established ourselves in the market and at the same time created an increasingly powerful solution for the utilities,” said Marco.

In addition to this success, powercloud opened new locations over the years – in Leipzig in 2018 and in Berlin in 2020. Paris, Milan, Madrid and Atlanta soon followed in 2021. However, the pandemic of the last few years has been a challenge for powercloud, just as it has for so many other companies. Nevertheless, powercloud is moving forward and launched the powerApp Store in 2020 – a major step that allows the entire digital infrastructure of energy utilities to be “platformed”. This opens a world of opportunity for energy utilities as it enables them to respond quickly to changing markets and infrastructure, without the need for costly IT integration projects.

powercloud’s solution is not only for large energy utilities. In the past year, municipal utilities have increasingly become the focus of powercloud’s corporate strategy. With regionally anchored utilities forming the backbone of the German energy industry, they have numerous advantages. In addition to classic energy, they offer a differentiated product portfolio that includes consumer products such as thermostats, e-scooters or even annual swimming pool passes. Municipal utilities can, for example, combine a “free” annual pass with a comprehensive e-mobility service and certain electricity rates. “These and similar products can be implemented in just a few steps using the powercloud platform. Regional utilities and municipal utilities have moved into our focus,” Marco confirmed.

A major success in the past year came with the contract award for the implementation of the new Thüga billing platform (TAP). Together with several partners and Accenture as the general contractor, our experts are developing an energy billing platform for a total of 38 municipal utilities and 15.5 million metering points that come together under the TAP umbrella. For the first time, we are developing the powercloud platform not only as a supplier, but also as a network operator.

Finally, there is a new development in the works regarding the growth and future of the company. An IT campus is being built in Achern, which will serve as living and working quarters for around 350 IT and software experts. “This is an essential factor for our future development as we plan to use the campus to attract a lot of talent to Achern, including from abroad,” explained Marco.

10 years of powercloud

In the most recent years, we have created ideal conditions for the continued success of powercloud. We have grown from a small start-up in the Black Forest to a 350-strong market leader in Germany, with our first customers abroad. At the same time, we are working continuously with our partners to further develop and optimize powercloud.

10 years of powercloud, over 10 million end customers on the platform, and over 11 billion euros in billing revenue on our platform. It doesn’t really feel like 10 years have gone by – that’s probably because our journey has only just begun.

Cross-Company Collaboration Promises Success for New Energy Billing Platform

When the Thüga Group embarked on a major project to provide a new billing platform for the German energy industry, they chose to go with a collaboration of consulting and technology partners including Accenture, powercloud, BTC and Klafka & Hinz. This collaboration provided the basis for the successful delivery of Thüga’s TAP energy billing platform. With around 15.5 million metering points, TAP is considered one of the largest IT projects in the market. The platform is positioned to set a new standard for the energy sector with a total of 38 municipal and energy utilities choosing to use TAP. The solution offers customers competitive services at economical prices based on a pay-per-use model.

Just like powercloud, the TAP system is a modular software-as-a-service platform built on a cloud architecture and sets new standards in terms of technology. This means users will be able to select the elements they need from the modular system. And the potential is not limited to Thüga’s TAP solution, as powercloud sees a major opportunity to replicate the functionality to similar platforms in the United States and other European countries.

In a recent interview with ZfK, a German magazine for communal business, Managing Directors of powercloud, Marco Beicht and Zoran Petrovic, explain the collaboration and the various roles provided by the individual service providers:

How would you describe the collaboration in developing and supplying TAP for Thüga and what role does each provider play?

Zoran, Managing Director & CGO at powercloud:
Through this collaboration, we will successfully deliver a flexible, open platform, designed for the future, and built by a team of talented partners. This collaboration was a natural fit with the philosophy behind the powercloud platform – broad openness. This makes it very easy, for example, to integrate a wide range of software solutions from other companies into our ecosystem. Everything is oriented towards cooperative ideas such as these. That is what sets us apart from other suppliers and is ultimately what also convinced Thüga. Our motto is, “Always move away from the monolithic solutions of the past towards a flexible platform of the future.” This allows everyone to play to their strengths.

Marco, Founder and CEO at powercloud:
As general contractor, Accenture provides overall management and is the central point of contact for the individual projects and migration tasks. Experts from Accenture will establish the new TAP platform based on powercloud and set it up. We will concentrate on what we do best, developing the powercloud platform, not only for the market role of supplier, but also for the network operator. Of course, we will also be on hand to assist with onboarding and support for subsequent operations.
As the local partner for system integration & support, BTC strengthens the team with its expertise in energy industry processes. The company commands wide-ranging technological know-how and has years of experience in supporting German utilities. Klafka & Hinz supplies regulated EDM processes for energy/gas to facilitate sales, network operation, meter reading management and time series management. All processes will be seamlessly integrated into the platform.

Which functions are taken on by powercloud in the subsequent business process?

Marco:
powercloud acts as the core system for the platform and handles financial processes for all market roles in the energy sector, including invoicing, receiving payments, managing payment reminders, and contract management. All regulatory processes such as market communication, consumption point management and network utilization management are also performed on the powercloud platform. We always ensure that all the regulatory demands on market communication are adhered to.

Zoran:
We ultimately manage all master data and are responsible for all financial processes. Everything is aggregated for the general ledger. And the solution is available for all market roles – supplier, metering station operator and network operator – and for both B2C and B2B clients for energy, gas, water, and heating/cooling. This means powercloud is predominantly responsible for the back-office and mid-office areas. However, Accenture adds a standardized digital layer to our solution, including its own interface for first-level service processes.

Securing this contract for the collaboration was a major win. Can you describe the significance to powercloud?

Marco:
The decision concerning TAP is an important milestone in the history of our company. It brings us one giant step closer to our goal of operating a centralized, highly efficient cloud solution for the energy industry. Incidentally, it is also possible to gauge the significance of this milestone by the market reactions – we have been congratulated by over 100 energy utilities, as well as numerous partners and software manufacturers.

Zoran:
We have come a long way, a journey which started back with our collaboration on the cross-association initiative, “IT platform of the future”. We are delighted that this project has given rise to TAP, and we have now secured the contract for the new solution – a sensational result.

What is the most challenging aspect of TAP and how exactly does your system make for efficient corporate processes?

Zoran:
powercloud will act as the energy industry engine room for all utilities, regardless of size. We see this as a challenge that is never complete. Quite the opposite, we want to always continue improving. An example of this will include the use of artificial intelligence in the powercloud platform. We promise that all TAP stakeholders as well as other customers will benefit from this and further innovations and will be perfectly equipped for whatever future challenges evolve.

Marco:
At this point, it is important to reiterate that TAP already encompasses 38 utilities of all different sizes. It was not easy to group all their requirements under one solution. At the same time, this provides a great opportunity for the stakeholders with synergistic benefits evolving because of the standardization. This aligns perfectly with the powercloud strategy that we have been pursuing for almost ten years – to provide a standardized engine room for the energy industry featuring companies of all sizes – from small startups to energy giants.
